Campbell castles and lands could be found in six parts of Scotland:
Argyll, Angus, Ayrshire, Clackmannan, Nairnshire and Perthshire.
Loudoun Castle is found in Ayrshire, southwest of Glasgow. It is
a magnificent but unsafe ruin still in the hands of the family and
not open to the public. The original keep or tower is encased in
a later baronial palace. The castle was for centuries the seat of
the ancestors of the Campbell Earls of Loudoun. Their descendants
still own the land.
